Ghandruk and Chomrong have become popular tourist destinations for a unique culture of Gurung residing in that area. The consumption habits and associated activities of tourist and local inhabitants have resulted to increment in solid waste generation and been as one of the most visible environmental problems that are gradually deteriorating the aesthetic value of local mountain environment.
Though various initiatives have been made through various stakeholders in managing solid waste, the region still lacks proper guideline and strategies for solid waste management. To preserve the mountain ecosystem and manage solid waste in the best way, effective plans and strategies are essential. In this regard, ENPHO, in agreement with Korean Environment Corporation (K-Eco) and with the financial support from World Bank, has supported Annapurna Rural Municipality to develop long term solid waste management plan for an effective solid waste management under the project- “Supporting the Development of Sustainable Solid Waste Management Strategies for the Mountainous Regions of Nepal”.
Project Outputs:
- Calculated waste characterization and generation from Ghandruk and Chomrong areas;
- Analyzed findings to indicate potential options for waste management in the specific area;
Major Achievements:
- Prepared Solid Waste Management Strategy Plan and Final Technical Report and submitted to K-Eco
